Patrick Pouyanné, 45, is a graduate of France’s Ecole Polytechnique and Ecole des
Mines of Paris. From 1989 to 1996, he held several positions in the French Industry
Ministry, then at the Cabinet of the Prime minister as Advisor for Environment and
Industry (1993-1995) and Chief of Staff of the Minister for Telecommunications and
Information Technologies (1995-1996).

He joined the Group in 1997 as General Secretary in Angola. In 1999 he was
appointed Group Representative and General Manager of the E&P subsidiary in
Qatar. In August of 2002, he became Senior Vice President Finance Economics
Information Systems for Exploration and Production and Member of the E&P
Management Committee.

Effective January 2006, he has been appointed Senior Vice President Strategy
Business Development Engineering R&D for Exploration and Production. He is
member of the Group Management Committee since May 2006.
